UPDATE(5/22/2017): Currently the situation remains the same in India as they are still experiencing heavy backlogs, extended transit times, and peak rates. To read up on the current situation in India, read below.

4/18/2017: We have been informed by our offices in India that the current capacity situation shows no sign of improvement and will continue its course until the end of the month and well into May. Carriers are using this capacity crunch to justify higher rates that nearly double what they originally were since the beginning of the year.

Also of important note, The Indian Port Labor Union that had originally called for a work stoppage on April 19th, has postponed the work stoppage to a later date.

To follow on our current situation out of India please read our previous bulletin below.

To Our Valued Customers,

For the past several weeks in India, space has become severely critical which in turn is affecting overall transit times for all cargo being exported. We have been updated by our offices in India that the situation has not improved and remains the same as previous weeks.

Current reports still show that the average transit time with air carriers that are accepting regular bookings are between 2-7 days, while express transit times are estimated to be between 1-3 days. Air carriers originally indicated that the situation should resolve by mid-April, however, they are now stating that this situation may be prolonged.

To add to the current situation, The Indian Port Labor Union has called for a work stoppage on April 19th to go over several demands on a national basis. Should they not reach a resolution, the effects of the ports can ripple into air freight.

We, at RCS, understand the importance of the on-time delivery of your cargo and will work to minimize the impact on our customers’ supply chain to the best of our ability. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and strongly suggest that you contact your RCS representative for any urgent shipments or for additional details on this situation.

Thank you for your understanding,
